THEME: PATHFINDER
ONI TOMIWA
Title; THE PATHFINDER
Amidst the routes of the forest,
A clan is trapped, by spider's webs
Journeying in bewilderment
With loud palpitations
Divinity is lurking
Between church bells
And clanking cowries of the spirits.
The White man's god
Made slaves of our kinsmen
And coals of yesteryears
Beautify our shrines.
As priests are lost, searching
for morsels of food.
The sacred beads lies in dried calabashes
Dispersed on cold ashes in the ancient grooves.
We are humans with no voice,
Sailors with lost compasses
Journeying in circle,
carried by the waves.
But who shall show us
How to find our feet
On the path of the creator?
Who shall mend these rooftops
Torn down by a strange zephyr?
Who shall build these walls
Destroyed by the tongue
Of a raging inferno?
This is a crossroad,
A confused path
Where all heads ache while finding answers...
Here we are, children of forgotten ancestors.
Here we are with loud murmurs
And arched brows,
Awaiting a lost pathfinder.
ADEPOJU BABAJIDE
THE PATHFINDER
By the night when it is still
And by the morning as it breaks away from darkness
And by the stars as they begin their orbits
Voyage by voyage
The pathfinder is here
Have you not thought about the people of the cave
They were men who dreamed
Guided by the pathfinder
And they found succor
Before the wants of mundanes
Fits me into the galaxies
Like the luminous Arabian moon
I shall receive the pathfinder with ease
Indeed,in the pathfinder
Is succor for men
If reflection is sought.
