THEME: MASSACRE

OLANIYI OLOLADE

TITLE: BREAKING NEWS

Our television mourned,
Radio sang a dirge;
For bartered boys,
Whose skins were soaked in
the pool of their bloods

Listen to more news,
And you will learn how to cry,
For every channel in my country,
Has a sad news to tell.

This song is dark,
It's meant for souls,
Somewhere in Borno,
Shattered and scattered
into fragments of dusty charcoals.

There are more news to cast;
Our national flag has been stained,
Littered with red liquid,
The colour of the Youth Corps,
Who melted into skins of slaughtered corpse'

Every day becomes news of broken dreams,
With dreamers withering like flowers,
Scorched by the smithing sun...

I'm tired of reading these news,
Let me mute my tongue,
I pray we find a better news to read.

ONI TOMIWA

TITLE: POGROM

Silence welcomes those who step this land
Silence, poisoned air and hoard of flies
Hovering over carcasses
Left in heaps hapharzardly
In pool of blood and mud.
Strewn on each other
Like debris brought by long rains
On helpless river banks.

Some burnt into soot
Some drowned and bloated
While searching for their lives
On rivers to an unknown course.

Heads pierced by violent bullets
Limbs hewn by angry cutlasses
Breasts slashed by blood-thirsty knives
Neck hanged on gallows and trees
Bodies sliced by gullotines...

disaster!
terror!!
horror!!!

Humans turn carrions
For scavenging birds and beasts.
Ruptured intestines
Rotten and stinking...

Madness had come to rule again
In the heart of heartless men
Of a bastardized clan
Who make fellows humans
Into a heap of rubbish.
Slain with no mercy.

Si(ghl)ence bids you goodbye
This time with emptiness
"you have no one to see here"

  1. This duel is tight! I can't move, so I spoil my vote because I vote poem 1 and 2.
