WHO WE BECAME.

We became bodies left to rot
Behind bars with broken bones
With souls whose flesh
Met torture on her route to survival.

We became lips robbed of laughter
Cum faint smiles
With heads bruised in a foreign land;
Painted alien, pronounced inferior.

We became faces exposed to tears -
For we're Black but you white.
We became birds with blinded eyes
Tossed by our friendly-enemy - Racism.

I am Emmanuel
