SOMEWHERE IN IBADAN.
Your name takes me to the top of the mountain,
Sending shivers down my spine,
As I viewed mother earth's descendants
Overhead from my sight.
Omowunmi,
I viewed a hundred mile To and Fro,
The stretch of Africa I covered,
But its higgledy piggledy distribution
Sent disappointment to my heart.
Stone faced, fierce looking faces
Was what I could see.
Faraway across the Nile
I saw death sailing his ship.
My eyes pierced through thin air
With the intensity of an eagle,
Frustrated with the hatred
I perceived across the land,
But faraway, somewhere in Ibadan,
Omowunmi I found someone.
Someone whose tender hands drew me closer,
Aiding my escape the land of the unborn
With her accommodating womb.
Her subtle legs I slept
When the rain seems unending,
Those wonderful breasts I sucked
For years I wished shouldn't end.
My heart rejoices each time she finds smile,
Cause she gave me hers long ago,
When I joined the race of destiny.
Omowunmi, decades ago before I found her,
News about her reached the land of the unborn.
Everyone searched where she was,
Lucky for me I found her,
Faraway somewhere in Ibadan,
And with her outstretched arms,
She brought me to life.
Oh hail motherhood!
Oh hail my mother,
And with blood dripping from my pen,
I say Thank you!
Thank you Omowunmi
For revealing you face
When I searched from the mountain,
Your humble son says;
Thank you.
I am Emmanuel
